A visit from Wes Hall
“Most of these kids will be in leadership positions and they'll be in a position to either keep the system or change the status quo” says TFS parent, and the first Black Dragon on Dragons' Den, Wes Hall.
Graciously sharing his time with us for a special Black History Month assembly at the Senior School, Mr. Hall told the story of rising from his humble beginnings in rural Jamaica. Our senior students heard first hand about the obstacles he faced, not only as a child getting out of poverty, but also as a Black man seeking to climb the corporate ladder in Canada.
Throughout his presentation, Mr. Hall made sure to remind the audience that, while he faced immense adversity solely because of the colour of his skin, he was always grateful for the opportunities he was given by this country. It was a moment to reflect on the importance of celebrating this month and, because of stories such as his, think of taking action to inspire change.
Following his presentation, Mr. Hall joined our Black Excellence society for lunch, of which his daughter Skyla H., Level V, is a member. There, they continued the conversation on equity and diversity.
Mr. Hall was also kind enough to personally sign and hand out his new book, No Bootstraps When You're Barefoot, to our senior students, who eagerly waited to meet him.
