Tanya Baker '98, Alumni of Distinction Award Recipient 2024
"I was always intellectually curious about other cultures and countries. I love to travel and I have many friends and colleagues and connections from all over the world. Much of that has stemmed from TFS because we were in a world where people came from everywhere. I was constantly exposed to different people from different places and that shaped who I was and who I am today."
As part of the executive office at Goldman Sachs, Tanya Baker advises clients on technology innovation and strategic growth at one of the top financial services firms in the world.
An acute mind for innovation and finance, Baker previously founded and led GS Accelerate, the firm’s first ever FinTech incubator, spearheading investments in multiple new business ventures, many of which remain active today. Prior to joining Goldman Sachs, she spent four years at Microsoft as a Program Manager in the Windows Mobile Division.
While at TFS, Baker demonstrated a passion for math and physics but was unsure of her path after high school. A chance meeting with an alumna at a TFS school dinner inspired her to pursue a degree in computer engineering at McGill University and complete an MBA from New York University’s prestigious Stern School of Business.
Although she grew up in Canada, Baker was exposed to various cultures at TFS. Guidance from TFS staff and students instilled her with a strong curiosity about other cultures and countries which has led to a love of travel and a gift for connecting with people from different parts of the world.
Baker appreciates the fantastic network of teachers and peers at TFS that she could always depend on for support and advice. Now, as a finance professional, she practices these values by giving back to her community and actively mentoring women pursuing careers in technology and finance.
